Trauma and extreme stress are powerful life experiences. They overwhelm the mind and body in ways that can have deep psychological, emotional, and physical consequences. People that struggle with unresolved trauma may live through years of anxiety, depression, and related mental health dysfunction before they seek help.

As a therapist in Kansas City, MO, I take the treatment of these trauma and stressor related disorders very seriously. Through my work at several VA facilities assisting combat veterans and sexual assault survivors, I am intimately aware of the complexities and treatment needs of the many trauma related challenges, including:

  • Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
  • Acute Stress Disorder
  • Complex PTSD
  • Adjustment Disorders

I want you to heal, and through my Kansas City therapy practice as well as my online practice, my role is to be there with you, using a mix evidence based therapy, gentle humor, and a supportive ear to walk with you through your trauma recovery.

What Constitutes Trauma?

Many people have experienced traumatic events such as exposure to war, being threatened with or the recipient of physical or sexual assault, terrorist attack, natural or man-made disasters, unexpected and sudden death of a loved one, or severe motor vehicle accidents. These types of events are horrific experiences.

However, traumatic events can also be “little t” events such as divorce or end of an important relationship, bullying, losing a job or home, experiencing emotional abuse, abandonment, or invasive medical procedures. What is important is the impact it has on your emotional and psychological functioning.

Types of PTSD and Stress Treatment

I am trained and certified in several evidence based, goal oriented therapies for trauma. Since no two individuals are the same, we will work together to determine the best treatment for your recovery, with several techniques to consider, including:

  • Cognitive Processing Therapy for PTSD (CPT)
  • Prolonged Exposure Therapy (PE)
  • Skills Training in Affective and Interpersonal Regulation Therapy for Complex PTSD (STAIR)
  • Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)

I am available to assist with any type of trauma, and will make sure that you are receiving a treatment that is based on your own experiences – not only with the trauma, but also with your past, present, and goals for the future. I help those that are ready to experience a happier, more fulfilling life, and will be there after your recovery if you need someone to talk to and guide you through other challenges.

I would love an opportunity to meet with you, get to know you as a person, and start working on your recovery.
